{"id":107,"date":"2020-02-19T20:39:12","date_gmt":"2020-02-19T20:39:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zhangnsf1618358.cs.fsu.edu\/?page_id=107"},"modified":"2021-02-16T23:49:13","modified_gmt":"2021-02-16T23:49:13","slug":"intellectual-merit","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/zhangnsf1618358.cs.fsu.edu\/?page_id=107","title":{"rendered":"INTELLECTUAL MERIT"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zhangnsf1618358.cs.fsu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/turned-on-pendant-lamp-132340-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-240\" width=\"408\" height=\"306\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zhangnsf1618358.cs.fsu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/turned-on-pendant-lamp-132340-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/zhangnsf1618358.cs.fsu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/turned-on-pendant-lamp-132340-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/zhangnsf1618358.cs.fsu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/turned-on-pendant-lamp-132340-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/zhangnsf1618358.cs.fsu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/turned-on-pendant-lamp-132340-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/zhangnsf1618358.cs.fsu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/turned-on-pendant-lamp-132340-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 408px) 85vw, 408px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>On the theoretical aspect, we have proved a strong result which serves as the foundation of this project, that is<strong>, a sinusoid can be approximated as a linear combination of base sinusoids on<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>constant<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>frequencies and the approximation error decays exponentially fast as the number of base sinusoids increases.<\/strong>&nbsp;This result basically explains the main theoretical question of this project, and has been used to guide the design options in a number of practical problems.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the practical aspect, we expect our results on CSI compression and estimation to have profound impact on the design and real-world performance of wireless networks such as Wi-Fi and cellular networks.\u00a0<strong>Our patented CSI compression algorithm,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>CSIApx, achieves higher compression ratio, lower distortion, and lower computation complexity than the existing CSI compression algorithm.<\/strong>\u00a0With high compression ratio, more frequent CSI feedbacks can be obtained, and more efficient data transmission options, such as MU-MIMO, can be enabled or enjoy lower error ratio.\u00a0<strong>Our CSI estimation algorithm,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>ParEst, achieves much higher accuracy than existing algorithms in challenging cases when the transmitter has multiple antennas.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0ParEst can be used for CSI estimation in a number of scenarios, such as 5G MIMO uplink and Grant Free channels, and improve the performance of the network. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, our proposed method for MIMO data transmissions, <strong>the Zenith scheme,  outperforms the closed-loop MIMO with SVD under some circumstances,<\/strong> such as when the channel correlation is high.
